I haven’t done a tag for a while, and I love doing book tags, so here goes!

Narnia – A magical world you would like to visit.

Besides Narnia, I would love to visit the world of the 39 Clues. Technically the book was based on some historical truths, but I would love to live in a world where a powerful family held such deep secrets. Imagine not being a Cahill, and just being a regular kid who happened to stumble upon the secret bases that the Cahills had throughout the world. It would be awesome to uncover some of the secrets without actually being a member of the family.

The Magician’s Nephew – A book you think is underrated. 

Not many people even know that the author of the Hunger Games wrote an amazing middle-grade story. However, I absolutely loved the Gregor the Overlander series when I was in middle school. I even finished all 5 books before I read the Hunger Games series, and consider it to be better than the Hunger Games in some ways. I only wish that the series had been picked up by someone and turned into a movie as well.

The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe – A classic that you love. 

I haven’t reread this book in years, but the first time I read it I was completely lost in it. I hope to reread some more classics this year so that I can review them on here!

The Horse and His Boy – A book you picked up without knowing what it was about.

I didn’t even know that this book was a retelling of a fairytale until I read it, but I felt that it really made the story even better for me. I ended up absolutely adoring it.

Prince Caspian – A sequel you loved. 

I think that this book was my absolute favorite sequel of all time. If you read it, you probably agree with me.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader – A quest you’d like to be a part of. 

I loved every single quest that the siblings went on in this trilogy. They were all so suspenseful and action-packed.

The Silver Chair – A book you did not expect to love. 

 

I thought that I would always dislike “realistic” novels about teenagers. Usually, I can’t relate to them, and I always thought that they were boring. This one may not have been the most relatable, but it was definitely enjoyable.

The Last Battle – The perfect ending to a series you love. 

I definitely haven’t read an absolutely perfect ending in a long time, nor have I read an ending to a series in a bit. However, this was definitely a rather good ending that I only had a few issues with.

The Pevensies – A siblinghood of friendship you’d love to be a part of.

I would love to be a part of the Pevensies definitely, but I would also love to be a part of Freya’s relationship with her sister Alice in the Freya Snow series.

Eustace Scrubb –  A character who grew on you. 

I loved the creature from Frankenstein so much!

Tumnus – Your favorite mystical creature. 

I loved Ignatius from the Summoner trilogy. I haven’t read the third book in the series, but as of the second book I still love him.

Caspian – A character with regal qualities.

Sara would have made an ideal queen. She treated everyone equally whether it was a scullery maid named Becky or a spoiled motherless child named Lottie. She was never mean or spiteful, even when it seemed like the world was against her. She also was very smart and had a wonderful imagination.

Reepicheep – A loyal character.

Starr’s boyfriend was always loyal to her, even when it got him in a lot of trouble. I loved seeing their relationship grow throughout the story.

The Wardrobe – Your favorite hideout/place to read.

I usually read in my bed simply because it is the quietest place in my house. However, when I have my own house or apartment, I hope to have a window seat where I can place pillows and blankets and read. Hopefully, it will rain often where I live so that I can read by a rainy window. That way, I will have a real book nook!

New Years Book Tag!

I found this tag on Thrice Read , and I think it a great way to end out the year. It was created by Bookable. I tag everyone who hasn’t done this tag to do it!

1) How many books are you planning to read in 2018?

I plan to read 200 books in 2018. Even though I only had 100 as my goal this year, I read 177 books. I think that 200 books will be easy next year if I read through the summer.

2) Name 5 books that you didn’t get to this year but want to make a priority in 2018.

3) What genre do you want to read more of?

I think that I want to read more horror or thriller stories. I enjoyed reading the Cellar and other Wattpad horror stories this year, and so I think that I am ready to start the books of well-known horror authors.

4) Name 3 non-book related goals for 2018.

• Graduate from high school with all A’s (except for AP Calculus, I will accept a B for that, that class is hard)
• Either create an Etsy craft page for selling crafts or start streaming games. Either way, start making money doing something fun.
• Go to at least one kpop concert!

6) One word that you’re hoping 2018 will be.

2017 Year In Book Review Tag

I was hunting around for an end of the year book tag, and I stumbled across this one at @Malanie Loves Fiction . Onto the tag!

1. First Ever Female Doctor Who: favorite female protagonist.

I actually have 2 for this one. First, I love Freya Snow from the Freya Snow series. She is a strong female protagonist who fights Demons and discovers herself throughout the series. She also happens to be autistic, but this does not get in the way of her helping people with her powers.

Secondly, I loved Reign the Earth, specifically the character Shalia. She was so brave throughout all she went through in the book, and I cannot wait for the next installment in the series to read more about her.

2. GCC Cuts Ties with Qatar: an author you cut ties with.

I rarely cut ties with an author simply because I don’t keep up with book drama to know what’s going on in most of their personal lives. However, the one book that I just simply hated this year was Finder’s Keepers. I could not even finish the book simply because of the bad stereotypes and cliches it portrayed. Therefore, I doubt I will read any more of Russ Colchamiro’s books anytime soon.

3. La La Land Oscar Mix-Up: a book that surprised you.

I’ll have to be honest here. I did not think that I would like these books at all, I had heard so many jokes about the books and movies that I thought that it would only be for starstruck teenage girls, which I did not consider myself to be. However, I am more of a starstruck teenage girl than I originally thought and I became obsessed with this series and the corresponding movies for about a month or two at the beginning of the year. Now, I listen to the soundtrack almost every time I read or want to relax, and I plan to reread the books at some point next year. Here’s the soundtrack on Spotify btw:

4. Hurricanes and Earthquakes: a book that rocked your world.

Three books that truly stunned me this year were A Court Of Mist and Fury, Heartless, and Defy The Stars. I sped through all three of these books and were done with them before I could even realize it. They were so engaging and the plots so unique that I could not help but love them.

5. Louvre Abu Dhabi: favorite book cover art.

Even though my opinion on these four books varies greatly, I have to admit that they have some of the best cover art. My four favorite cover arts are A Cold Legacy, Deadly Cargo, The Selection, and Winter. Even if these books weren’t the best, I really started to read them because of their beautiful cover art.

6. Da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi Sells for $450m: a take-my-money book.

No matter how many times I tried, I was unable to read this book as an ebook and stay focused on it. The same thing happened to me with King’s Cage, and then I checked it out when my school’s library bought it. For some reason my school’s library does not have this, nor do any public libraries in my entire city. While I have not taken the time to buy it on Amazon yet, the minute I find it either at the Strand Bookstore or on Bookoutlet for a cheaper price, I will snatch it up.

7. Total Eclipse: a sequel that overshadows the first book.

ACOMAF totally overshadowed A Court of Thornes and Roses for me. When I first read ACOTAR, I enjoyed it. However, the series got immensely better to me in the second book, and I found myself rushing to read the third.

8. Muslim Ban: favorite diverse read.

As an African American girl, The Hate U Give is not necessarily diverse for me. However, it does discuss many important issues and might be a diverse read for others, so I will still include it.

Any book by LC Mawson is so diverse that it is not even possible to name the groups of people included. There are people of different mental and physical abilities, who have a variety of labels such as transgender, bisexual, asexual, and who belong to all the races under the sun. Every time I think of someone who hasn’t yet been included in the series I am currently reading of hers, I read another series, and that person is will be included there. 9. Italy Doesn’t Qualify for World Cup: most disappointing book.

These two books were almost painful to finish and completely disappointed me. I had heard that the authors were good, but these books were not what I had hoped that they would be. The Finisher was so slow, and Eve & Adam was just boring completely.

10. Prince Harry Engaged: favorite ship.

Alright so this is technically not book related, but this year I have absolutely fallen in love with Taekook. I have made friends in chats from Youtube channels that analyze moments from these two, I have spent time watching videos about them, and I must have at least 20 gifs of only these two members of BTS being cute on my phone.

11. Star Wars the Last Jedi: most anticipated book.

I didn’t really anticipate anything? But my most anticipated books for next year are Defy the Worlds, the second book in the Defy the Stars series, and Smoke in the Sun or the next book in the Flame in the Mist series.

ODIN – FAVORITE STAND ALONE

Odin is the All-Father, the leader of the Norse Gods. He is the god of wisdom, poetry, battle, death, wine, and war, among other things.

This book made me fall in love with reading, as I felt so much like Sara Crewe at 8 years old. This book was a beautiful book, and was not difficult to read although being over 100 years old. Although unofficial sequels have been written, it was originally written as a standalone.

THOR – A BOOK THAT HITS YOU RIGHT IN THE FEELS

Thor is the god of thunder, weather, warriors, strength, and storms, so his might packs a punch. He is married to the beautiful Lady Sif.

The Hate U Give really stood out to me when I was reading it, and now I know that I will never forget it. Starr was such a memorable character who went through so much, from seeing her friend shot in front of her to seeing the lackluster responses of her friends in her private school and the violent responses of her friends in her poor community. As it is so relevant to what is happening today, it really got to me and made me think about how I view the world and the shootings on TV.

My Review

LOKI – BIGGEST PLOT TWIST OR CHARACTER BETRAYAL

Loki is the god of mischief, thieves and thrives on chaos.

All I will say is that the Character Betrayal relates to Red Queen and a Court of Mist and Fury is the Plot Twist. But I won’t spoil anything! And Yes, Red Queen is the same as  @MyScarletBlog XD

Frigg is Odin’s wife, the goddess of love, marriage, fertility and fate.

Again, I won’t spoil, but if you have read this book, you know who I am talking about, and you know why they are completely OTP.

HEIMDALL – FAVOURITE SECOND BOOK IN A SERIES

Heimdall is the god of loyalty, faithfulness and he is who protects the bi-frost, the bridge that connects all nine worlds.

I swept through both of these books when I read their respective series, and I loved each one more than the first book of the series. In the Harry Potter series, I also loved the second movie more. However with the Divergent trilogy, I didn’t like the Insurgent movie as much as the first one.

Chamber of Secrets

BALDUR – FAVOURITE MALE CHARACTER

Baldur is the beloved son of Odin and Frigg, twin brother of Hodor.

To be honest, I can’t really choose. However, my current favorite male characters are all in fanfiction, and they are members of BTS, so I just chose two male characters that I really enjoyed reading recently. Rhysand from A Court of Mist and Fury and Beau from Life and Death were two of my favorite male book characters this year.

SIF – MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK COVER

Lady Sif is known for her beautiful golden tresses, although she is also the goddess of the harvest and is married to Thor.

I just love the covers of this series so much, even though the ratings of each book vary.

 

FREY – BOOK/SERIES THAT ALWAYS MAKES YOU HAPPY

Frey is the lord of weather, god of light, summer, master of agriculture, fertility, and brother of Freya.

I haven’t thought about the Here Come the Brownie’s series in years, but I still remember reading it and enjoying all the books to this day. The 39 clues series also brought light to my  life when I was in middle school, and introduced me to several authors whom I now love, such as Rick Riordan.

FREYA – FAVOURITE BOOK SETTING

Freya is the goddess of love and beauty, fertility, war, wealth and growth, and sister of Frey.

I fall in love with the settings of many books. However, Alice Through the Looking Glass will always be the most memorable. I was never one for getting completely lost in a book and visualizing that I was there. However, I remember reading this book in middle school on my bed. I got so into the story that I didn’t realize that I had been reading for an hour and a half. Then when I looked up from the book after a while, I forgot who I was and where I was. This is so far the only book who has ever done this to me, so this must be my brain’s favorite setting XD. I barely remember the story now though, I have to reread it soon.

TYR – FAVOURITE BOOK WITH A BIG UPHEAVAL/EPIC FIGHT SCENE

I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows almost exactly 6 years ago. I remember because it took me a summer of sporadic reading to get through the last 3 books. Then I actually lost my last baby tooth when I was in the middle of this book during October of 2011! I loved the fight scenes in this book, but some things in the story did go over my head because I was so young. I plan to eventually return to this book once I am done working my way through the series.

ULLER – CHARACTER DEATH THAT AFFECTED YOU THE MOST

All of the deaths in this book really affected me at 11. I won’t say any names for anyone who hasn’t read this book yet. I may even forget one or two since it has been so long since I read this book in the series. But I know that a few of them just stabbed me through the heart.

NJORD – FAVOURITE BOOK AN EPIC JOURNEY ON WATER/OCEAN SETTING

Njord is the god of the wind and the sea.

Mermaids are a weakness for me. I personally love the beach, and one of my favorite Princess movies when I grew up was actually A Little Mermaid 2. I didn’t care about 1 to be honest, but I loved Melody so much. This series is about a girl who found out that she was a mermaid, and I never actually got to finish it! I have the first 4 books somewhere, but I was never able to buy the 5th and I can’t remember if I ever read the 4th. This book was another golden middle school find.

VALKYRIE – FAVOURITE STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER

The Valkyries, much like the Amazons, are strong female warriors.

Four of the strongest women I read about this year were Cyra from Carve the Mark, Sadie Kane from the Kane Chronicles, Feyre from the A Court Of series, and Starr from The Hate U Give. All 4 impact their surroundings in different ways, and they all represent different age groups. Sadie is a middle school strong female hero, Starr and Cyra are high school aged, and Feyre is a young adult/college aged.

AESIR/VANIR – FAVOURITE BOOK CREW

The Aesir and the Vanir are two groups of Norse gods, believed to be old and new gods

I love the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked in this book, they are all such unique characters and yet they come together in order to save Oz!

SEIPYRTS – FAVOURITE SIDEKICK (NON-HUMAN CHARACTER)

Seipyrts is Odin’s trusty eight legged steed, yes you heard that correctly – eight legs.  I promise that he is the god’s horse companion and not a giant spider that he rides around on… although that would probably strike more fear in the hearts of his enemies than a pretty horse does.

Ignatius was such a good helper to Fletcher throughout this series, and although I haven’t read the final book, I know this will never change.

I was tagged by @mcmusicbookblog to do the Disney Princess Sidekicks Book Tag! Sorry for taking so long, but here it is!

Mushu from Mulan/Olaf and Sven from Frozen: Name your favorite hilarious character or your favorite comedy/funny book

One book character who always makes me laugh is Carter or Sadie Kane from the Kane Chronicles. Heck, even though the series is not supposed to be a comedy series, all of the books in the series made me die of laughter at one point or another. The Seven Dwarfs from Snow White: Favorite group/ensemble

I love the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked from Dorothy Must Die. They all work together so well throughout the series in order to save Oz, and they all have such interesting backstories. Danielle Paige truly did an amazing job with making sure that we got to know each member individually, and not simply as the main character plus her partners. Pascal from Tangled: A book that started out one way but changed for you

I will name 2! The Selection series started off pretty good for me, but the third book ended really badly for me. So I guess this counts as a series, but it changed completely so it is probably the most dramatic change.

Second, Rhysand from the A Court Of series changed my life. I hated him with a passion, and now I love him with every fiber of my being.

Meeko from Pocahontas: A book that had a plot twist that you did not see coming.

Nemesis had me on the edge of my seat for the first half of the novel, and by the time it was onto the second half I was reading it from the floor. The many plot twists throughout were all unique, all surprising, and all amazing. Here is a link to my review of this book.

Rajah from Aladdin/ Flounder from the Little Mermaid-  Favorite best friends in a novel.

I love the story “A Little Princess” written by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I haven’t written a review on it yet because I have not reread it in ages, but I definitely plan to do so within the next month. In this book, the rich girl Sara helps the scullery maid Becky so that she can eat and have a friend in the dark and dreary boarding school. When she is then forced to become a maid, Becky is her best ally, as she teaches her how to work with the other difficult members of staff and how to survive the harsh working conditions. I do not think I would be able to find a better pair of friends anywhere.

Louis from The Princess and the Frog/ Sebastian from The Little Mermaid/ Cogsworth, Lumiere, Mrs. Potts, and Chip from Beauty and the Beast – A novel that made you want to sing its praises.

 

I think that the novel that I would want to sing the praises of would be Hunt or book 1 of the Freya Snow series. I cannot stress enough how amazing it was for L.C. Mawson to go to such lengths in her writing to make it diversified and include people from all walks of life. Here is my review of the book where I go into more detail.

Maximus from Tangled – A character that faces a lot of obstacles.

One character who faces a lot of obstacles is Mary from the novella Germination. She is a runaway whose parents abused her. If she were ever forced to go back home, she could become seriously injured or die, but it is also dangerous on the streets. She then gets attacked by a random crazed bloody man on the street, but cannot afford to be checked out by a doctor. She has gone through so much in her life, and now things are getting even more complicated. Here is a link to my review of this novella.

Hamish, Hubert, and Harris from Brave – Favorite family dynamics in a novel.

The crew from The Mortal Instruments has some very nice family dynamics. All of them are very close, no matter what happens, and for the most part they have all stuck together. Ray from the Princess and The Frog/ 3 Fairies from Sleeping Beauty – Book that most impacted your life.

This is my favorite cover for this book. I read this book a lot when I was younger after my mom showed me this version of the movie:

I loved the story. I loved the thought of a smart girl who loved to read getting to be the hero of her own life. I personally loved reading, and I felt that I could find a friend in Sara. If I hadn’t read this book, I might have been a lot less interested in reading in general.

Hei Hei from Moana – A character that steals the show.

Star from the Hate U Give. She was such a strong character throughout the whole novel, from seeing her best friend being shot dead in front of her, to witnessing the get out of class “protests” for him at her school. She stole the entire book for me. Here is my review for that book.

Gus and Jaq from Cinderella – Name your favorite or worst opposite attracts pairing.

Carter and Zia from The Kane Chronicles. Also Walt and Sadie.  I don’t think that they ever really GOT TOGETHER got together in the series, but they might have as it has been about 5-6 years since I read the whole thing. However, I have read enough fanfiction to consider their flirtation throughout the series to be a completely real relationship.

 

 

I tag whoever hasn’t done this yet and loves Disney just as much as I do! My favorite disney movie was actually Little Mermaid 2 or Jungle Book 2 for a while. I have no idea why, but I just loved those movies, even though I don’t think they were ever in theaters.
